Fast flying geese

It’s been a busy month so far with ongoing preparations for the West Country Quilt and Textile Show featuring high on my to-do list. I’ve only just found time to edit this month’s From Nellie, with love BOM pattern. Month 8 features the Fast flying geese technique.

It’s a great, speedy technique for making four flying geese units at a time. This month’s project is a chevrons cushion.

As usual you can find the pattern in our Payhip (UK and Europe) and Etsy (Rest of the world) stores.

I can’t believe that more than half the year has passed already! We’re on month 7 of the From Nellie, with love BOM. This month we’re playing with a very basic Trapunto technique on this cute bow design.

This month’s project is a very pretty and functional zippy pouch. At 10 1/2″ x 14 1/2″ it’s the perfect size for toting your portable projects around with you and is very quick to make.

As usual you can find the pattern in our Payhip (UK and Europe) and Etsy (Rest of the world) stores. At £2.00 it’s a bit of a bargain.

In reverse

It’s time for month 6 of the From Nellie with love BOM. This month we’re looking at reverse applique and adding two borders to our quilt top.

fig j These cute flower blocks are really fun to make. At this half-way point it’s starting to get exciting now as we can really see the quilt top coming together.

This month’s companion project is a journal cover. A fun, speedy make ideal as a gift for your journal loving friends.

Scraptastic hearts

Slightly later than usual this month due to technical difficulties (laptop had a hissy fit), but it’s finally time for month 5 of the From Nellie, with love BOM. This month we’re featuring Crazy Patchwork and machine applique.

fig jThis technique is perfect for using up lots of scraps and a great excuse to try out your fancy machine stitches. This month’s project is a cute half apron.

You can find the PDF pattern in our Payhip (UK and Europe) and Etsy (Rest of the world) stores.

I’m off to find some time to catch up with my solids version of this quilt!

Slightly later than intended this month it’s time for the next installment of the From Nellie, with love BOM. The pattern for month 4 is now live in our Payhip and Etsy stores. This month features the Bargello/Tube technique.

This month’s project is a Christmas sack.

I’m looking forward to making these blocks up in my Paperie and solids version.

Dresden love

It’s the start of a new month so it’s time to release the next part of the From Nellie, with love BOM! This month we’re looking at Freezer paper template piecing and re-visiting curves to create these cute Dresden fans.

This month’s companion project is a tablecloth/picnic blanket. Why not start planning for the spring? I am looking forward to some sunnier days! You can find the pattern for month 2 of the BOM here.

I’m having a horrible time with Sciatica at the moment so I haven’t been able to start making my solids version of the blocks yet or prepare any fabric bundles. I’m hoping to get on with both of those things next week….fingers crossed. Catch you soon x

2 day streak

Blogging 2 days in a row doesn’t happen often around here but I managed to finish the medallion for the From Nellie, with love BOM today so I thought I’d pop in to share it.

I love the way the colours pop against the navy background fabric! It’s so satisfying when something you’ve had in your mind looks exactly the way you hoped it would in reality.

From Nellie, with love

We’re really excited to be announcing our block of the month (BOM) programme, “From Nellie, with love”, a 12 month skill builder BOM, starting in January 2017.

Rather than committing to a 12 month programme in advance we have decided to make this a pay as you go programme, so that you can dip in and out to suit your needs, which will be especially useful if you are drawn to some of the techniques but don’t want to make the quilt. The patterns will become available in the first week of each month through our Payhip store but we will post details of where to find them here and on our website (possibly even a newsletter reminder) so you don’t miss out.

Each month will feature a detailed guide to a different technique and will include a small project idea that you can make with it if you decide not to make the quilt. If you get really stuck or have any questions as you go along you can email us for advice:

Here is the schedule of techniques:

January – Medallion centre – Curved piecing

February – Dresden fans – freezer paper templates

March – Vines and flowers – bias binding and needle turn appliqué

April – Scrappy trip block – Bargello technique

May – Scrappy hearts – crazy patchwork piecing

June – Flowers – reverse appliqué

July – Bows – Trapunto style technique

August – Geese – fast flying geese technique

September – Prairie points – folded patchwork

October – Hexagons – gathered patchwork

November – Dresden corners – English paper piecing

December – Yo-yos/Suffolk puffs

So, now you want to know how much it is going to cost? £2.00 a month! That’s a bargain, even if we do say so ourselves.

We are pretty giddy as we are also going to be offering a limited number of fabric kits on a monthly basis which will be £12.00 including postage and packing in the UK(international postage will be extra). Kits will be available from our webshop. If you are interested in the fabric kits we would really appreciate you taking the time to fill in this short survey.

Reene will be stitching along to create another version of this beautiful quilt using her favourite print from Paperie by Amy Sinibaldi and bright solids. We really hope you’ll consider sewing along with us or letting a friend know if you think they’d be interested, the more the merrier. Catch you soon x
